Yoga and Autism: Emotional Regulation

Yoga can be amazing for kids living with autism helping them with pain, aggression and obsessive behaviors they sometimes struggle with. This class will teach you how to use yoga’s powerful tools to help your child regulate their emotions. This leads to social success.
Over time and with some practice, kids can use these tools on their own to calm themselves and handle anxiety. Poses also help with body awareness, strength and provide sensory input. We will go over the energetics of yoga and find out what poses increase energy, calm energy and achieve balance. Dress for movement since you’ll be practicing these techniques in class.
This class is for adults who want to teach kids to use these poses. It is an ideal opportunity for professionals who work with kids with autism to learn these techniques so you can share them with all kids. Wanting to support all the kids you work with? Yoga instructors will benefit from these classes too!
Instructor: Jessica Jenness parents three kids and has been practicing yoga since her first pregnancy nine years ago. After five years of practice, she received her first teaching certification. Since her son’s diagnosis she sought out ways to bring the healing techniques of yoga to her son and others living with autism. She’s passionate about bringing these techniques of calming, relaxation, focus, and balance to all children with autism.
