Update on Early Learning Scholarships

Don’t miss this opportunity to get assistance with the cost of sending your preschooler to the perfect early learning program for them. The Minnesota Department of Education is offering scholarships to eligible families beginning fall of this year. See our earlier post on this program.

Up to $5,000 per scholarship will be awarded. Approximately 4,000 scholarships will be awarded to eligible families each year. Families must have a child three or four years old as of September 1 of the current year, and who meet other eligibility requirements. Visit the MDE web site for more details on these requirements.

Families can access the scholarships in two ways:

  • Pathway I where scholarships are awarded directly to eligible children through regional Early Learning Scholarships Administrator Offices. These scholarships are paid to the early childhood program the family chooses. Applications will be available mid to late September of 2013. Visit the MDE web site for more details.
  • Pathway II where scholarships are awarded to children through a Four-Star Parent Aware rated early childhood program that has been designated as a Pathway II site in communities with the highest need. Your child may be able to access a scholarship through one of these programs in mid to late September of 2013. Visit the MDE web site for more details.

And of course we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
